Venezuelan authorities have exposed a sophisticated terrorist plot involving Albanian mercenaries, Colombian and Ecuadorian criminal networks, and far-right opposition sectors, aiming to sabotage the May 25, 2025, elections. The operation highlights the ongoing threats against Venezuelan democracy and the government’s commitment to safeguarding national sovereignty.

Just days before the pivotal May 25, 2025, elections, Venezuelan officials have revealed a complex terrorist conspiracy designed to destabilize the country. According to Diosdado Cabello, Vice President for Policy, Citizen Security, and Peace, the plot was orchestrated from Colombia and Ecuador, financed by international drug trafficking, and involved Albanian mercenaries.

Authorities assert that this operation is the latest attempt by extremist opposition sectors, in collusion with transnational criminal organizations, to undermine Venezuela’s democratic process.

The investigation has already resulted in the arrest of 38 mercenaries, including 17 foreigners and 21 Venezuelans, who tried to enter the country disguised as tourists. Authorities report that the plot targeted embassies, hospitals, police stations, public service facilities, and both government and opposition figures participating in the elections. “They don’t care about losses; what they want is an international impact,” Cabello stated, emphasizing the ruthlessness of those involved.

A key revelation is the role of the Albanian mafia, which has expanded its operations from Europe to Latin America, controlling cocaine routes from South America to Europe. Ecuador has become a strategic hub for these criminal networks, with reports indicating their involvement in customs, ports, and trade routes. Ecuadorian authorities have identified “hitman recruitment schools” in Manta and Guayaquil, reflecting the mafia’s deep entrenchment in the region’s illicit economy.

President Nicolás Maduro has directly linked the plot to foreign interference, citing the presence of military contractor Erik Prince in Ecuador as evidence of U.S. imperial interests. Prince, notorious for his role in private military operations, has previously launched campaigns to destabilize the Venezuelan government. Investigations suggest connections between the detained mercenaries and domestic networks led by figures with histories of coup attempts, further underscoring the external threats facing Venezuela.

In response to these threats, the Venezuelan government has suspended flights from Colombia and activated heightened security protocols, including the implementation of Plan Bolívar and the takeover of polling stations under Plan República.

The text reads: Authorities in #Venezuela have revealed a terrorist plot orchestrated from #Colombia 🇨🇴 and #Ecuador, financed by international drug trafficking and involving Albanian mercenaries, designed to attack the May 25 elections.

Despite attempts to disrupt the elections, authorities affirm that the National Electoral Council remains on schedule, and the people’s right to participate in democracy will be defended.

The opposition remains fractured between those advocating electoral participation and sectors pushing abstention, often influenced by foreign actors and funding. Authorities have specifically linked opposition figures such as María Corina Machado to the terrorist plot, citing financing from Colombian drug trafficking networks directed by prominent right-wing leaders.

President Maduro has condemned international interference and reaffirmed Venezuela’s commitment to holding its 32nd elections, urging citizens to stay vigilant against ongoing destabilization efforts.
